A few tips and tricks when
submitting products:
- If not all of your records are displayed, click
either of the "Showall" buttons in the search box.
- Include in your description any search terms you
want people to find you with, since Google searches descriptions when a
visitor searches for a product.
- Google
drops all listings after 30 days. Although their spiders will spider your site
regularly, it is best to submit all your products at least once a month. This
will make sure your products are listed, and their search results will display
a descriptive description. (Note: The Pro
version
of Speedo Froogle Feed Generator
includes a reminder that will remind you to re-submit your
products).
- Store
frequently used data in the Notebook .
You can then copy and paste the data into the product data boxes
easily.
- If you
get an error when ftp'ing to Google, check to make sure your username and
password are entered correctly in Preferences
. They must be exactly the same
as what you chose in the Google Base Center. It is also
possible that Google's servers are busy. Wait a little while and try
again.
- Once you submit a feed, wait a while and use the
browser to access Google Base Central to check if there were any
errors.
- Google
Base requires you to register the url to your web site before
they will accept your feeds. This can be done in Google Base Central. Use the
built-in browser in Froogle Feed Lite to log in and make your changes.
To track the traffic that
Froogle sends you:
There are two easy ways to set up tracking URLs for
your product links. Which one you use will depend on how your site is set up
(see Methods 1 and 2, below).
Note: after you create your tracking URLs, please
test them in a web browser to verify that they link properly to the specified
pages.
Method 1
To change a
URL like http://www.example.com/product.html to a tracking URL,
add "?source=froogle" to the end. The URL will now look like this:
http://www.example.com/product.html?source=froogle
Method 2
If the URL already has a question mark in it, just
add "&source= froogle" to the end. So your URL would change
from:
http://www.example.com/search.cgi?q=exampleproduct
To:
http://www.example.com/search.cgi?q=exampleproduct&source=froogle
Your web server should already support this
formatting without any special changes. Once you have added "source=froogle" to
the URLs in your data feed, you will be able to look for "source=froogle" in
your web server logs. If everything works properly, this string will appear each
time a Froogle user clicks through to one of your products.
